Supporters of the Every Australian Counts Campaign have begun the year with key events that continue to build community awareness about the need for a National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Kommecial and Alcoa recognise partnership

Kommercial Café celebrated its five-year partnership with Alcoa in March with a morning tea.
The Point Henry cafeteria was the first industrial café Kommercial opened and over the past five years, it has proved a great success.
Since then Kommercial has opened industrial cafes at the CSIRO and Shell.

The family of late Karingal Life Member Mavis Kirkham are looking forward to contributing to the development of a two-bedroom unit near Karingal’s shared-supported accommodation residence at McAllister in Whittington.

Organisers and supporters of the Every Australian Counts Campaign are pleased to have achieved the campaign goal of having 100,000 supporters signed-up by Christmas 2011.
“The first year of the campaign has been very successful with supporter numbers in excess of 106,000 and the government announcement of in-principle support of the campaign,” says Jacqui Pierce, Karingal’s NDIS coordinator.

Karingal - celebrating 60 years

This year promises to be an exciting one as we begin to celebrate Karingal’s 60th year.
This organisation has changed and evolved a great deal since it began in 1952 as a playgroup for children with disabilities.
In 2012 we will take a look back over those founding years and into the modern history of the organisation and all its changes with a new history book to be released later this year.
While we have had two histories written in the past, this one will recap Karingal and its beginnin

Twelve young family members and friends of Karingal staff became VIP’s on December 15 and participated in Karingal’s annual What We Do Day.
The day opened with an ice breaker activity before an informative talk by Disability Awareness Consultant and Karingal Client Chris Van Ingen.

EdLinks celebrated 25 years of inclusive education at its student graduation ceremony in December.
Students, families, volunteers, teachers and support staff, Karingal Board and Executive Team members were there to celebrate the great milestone and recognise the hard work of students over the past 12 months.

Karingal celebrated International Day of People with Disability (IDPWD) by hosting a free barbecue and live music event on Saturday December 3 at The FOrT in Corio.
Proudly supported by The City of Greater Geelong, Barwon Water, Encompass, Lions Club (Corio Norlane branch), MatchWorks and Scope, the event focused on supporting the Every Australian Counts Campaign for a National Disability Insurance Scheme.
