FAQ About our employment support program people with a disability

The program is a free service created to assist people with a disability into work and build relationships with their new employers.

Why would I become involved in the program?

As an employer, you want the best out of your staff in order to have high productivity. Job seekers with a disability, as with most employees, want to perform to a standard of which they can be proud, with the potential to build a strong reputation in the workplace. In fact, employees with a disability have been found to be rated average or better performers compared with their colleagues, as well as having fewer claims for accidents and higher attendance.

Would I have to change the workplace to suit an employee with a disability?

In most cases, there will be no need for any modifications to the workplace. In the rare cases where adjustments would need to be made, MatchWorks can provide assistance or help you access Government financial assistance to make the necessary modifications.

How would I have to treat a person with a disability?

That’s easy! Just as you would any other member of staff - with respect. Including them as you would any other member of the team.

Is there a trial period if I take on a new employee with a disability?

As with any new staff member, it can take time to get to know them and find out if they are completely suited to your position. So as with any new staff member, there are trial periods for job seekers employed through this program. However, with MatchWorks pre-screening and referral service, you are more likely to have a long term employee by using this program.
