Starting a successful catering company and ending ties with Centrelink was Gavin Draper’s key motivations when he registered with MatchWorks in Footscray.
With 20-years’ experience working around the world, Gavin has served food at restaurants in England, France, Spain and also on the cruise liner the Queen Elizabeth 2 for 12 months.
Gavin came to Australia 10 years ago for a lifestyle change and while he worked from Perth to Sydney, and Cairns to Melbourne, nothing became permanent.

MatchWorks got behind NAIDOC Week this year with a number of staff and clients participating in the Melbourne march.
NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life.

Former MatchWorks jobseeker Michael Ashman and Employment Consultant Patrice Serong were finalists in the prestigious National Employment Awards for Excellence this month with Michael winning the Achiever of the Year Award.
The National Employment Awards for Excellence are hosted by the National Employment Services Association (NESA) and are in their seventh year.
Michael was presented with his award by The Hon Kate Ellis MP, Minister for Employment Participation in Brisbane.

MatchWorks does well in ratings again

MatchWorks has performed well once again as part of the Federal Government’s star ratings program.
During February MatchWorks two employment programs, Disability Employment Service (DES) and Job Services Australia (JSA), received their most recent star ratings from the Department of Employment, Education and Workplace Relations (DEEWR).
MatchWorks General Manager Michael Wasley said the ratings measured MatchWorks’ performance up until December 2010 and reflects its ability to place and keep

Colac job seekers Dream, Believe and Achieve

Around 20 unemployed women aged 16 - 19 from Warrnambool and Colac were treated to a make-over and motivational day in March to assist in building their self-esteem and improve their chances of gaining employment.
The day, titled the ‘Dream, Believe and Achieve’ was organised by MatchWorks, in partnership with BacLinks.
The participants were treated to hair and makeup guidance from South West TAFE, and participated in a lesson on enhanced confidence through beauty, fashion, career and life ski

To a parent who has been busy raising a child on their own and out of the workforce for several years, finding paid employment can represent an almost overwhelming challenge.
A group of 29 Geelong single parents were selected to join the pilot MatchWorks program; designed specifically to support job-seekers and place them in flexible, family-friendly employment.
